Craig Russell is Canadian author, playwright, and former land titles lawyer based in Brandon, Manitoba. Raised on a farm just north of Carman, he pursued careers in both law and the arts. For many years he served as a District Registrar for Land Titles in southwestern Manitoba, overseeing a large regional land-registration system. Parallel to his legal career, Russell has long been active in theatre, both directing and writing stage works. His interest in dramatic structure and dialogue informed his transition to fiction. His debut novel, Black Bottle Man, won the Moonbeam Award gold medal for Young Adult Fantasy and was a finalist for the Prix Aurora Award and multiple Manitoba Book Awards. He later branched into speculative and ecological fiction: his novel Fragment is described as an eco-thriller that explores climate and human crisis in interconnected narratives. Russell and his wife have also spent years restoring a 1906 Victorian heritage house in Brandon, known as “Johnson House.”
