A century-old farmhouse reborn as Killarney’s cultural heart
Built for Innovation
Originally constructed in 1915 as the Demonstration Farm House, the building once served as the residence for the manager of Manitoba’s first agricultural research facility. From its wide shady veranda to its prairie-four-square design, the home symbolized progress and promise — a place where new ideas in farming and community life began to take root.
Saved by Community
By the early 2010s, the home sat boarded up and silent — until a small group of residents and the newly formed Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council imagined something more.
They rallied volunteers, raised funds, and poured thousands of hours into bringing the house back to life. Every wall, window, and baseboard carries the imprint of their dedication.
In 2018, after years of restoration, the Heritage Home for the Arts opened its doors — not just as a building, but as a community triumph.
Where Art Finds Home
Today, the Heritage Home blends history and creativity under one roof.
Its galleries and gathering spaces welcome exhibitions, conversations, and connections — continuing the spirit of innovation that first shaped it in 1915. It stands as a living example of what happens when heritage and imagination share the same space.
